EXPERIENCE:
Dr. Aviles has been engaged in construction materials testing, geotechnical and related environmental engineering in the Gulf Coast Region for over 50 years. Dr. Aviles' experience in construction materials testing includes design of runways for airfield structures, supervision of construction of earthen levees, project engineering for 20 mile haul road, study and evaluation of gravel and sand materials in an airfield runway test section, various highway projects for METRO, Harris County, City of Houston, and Park and Ride Facilities.

He served in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers where he conducted numerous airfield pavement evaluations. Dr. Aviles' experience includes a 20-mile haul road for 100-Ton vehicles, airfield evaluation and runway design on airfields in the United States and overseas, foundation design for high rise buildings in Austin, Dallas, and San Antonio. His Houston area experience includes design of foundations for various structures including high-rises, wharves and roads, as well as the evaluation and design of airfield pavements at Houston Intercontinental Airport. Dr. Aviles has authored and presented numerous technical papers on geotechnical engineering.

Dr. Aviles has served in many positions of leadership in the engineering profession including Vice President of the Texas Society of Professional Engineers. He is involved in many civic activities including serving on the Board of Directors of the Greater Houston Partnership, as President of the Coastal Water Authority. TSPE named Dr. Aviles 1998 Engineer of the Year for the Houston Chapter and 1999 Engineer of the Year for the State of Texas. He was appointed to the Board of Regents at Texas A&M University in 1997. He served as Chairman of the U.S. Air Force Academy Board of Visitors, and holds the rank of Major General (Retired) in the U.S. Army Reserve.
